Liverpool have had a tough pre-season campaign losing three matches and drawing one. Will this run of form worry Klopp or is it just a case of Liverpool playing in second gear for pre-season? After a season of great success last year bringing a 6 th European trophy back to Anfield. Can the reds have a successful campaign again this year? These pre-season games are vital for players to get up to the speed of the game for othe coming season. Liverpool have had tough high intensity matches against high quality opponents in the form of Dortmund, Sevilla, Sporting CP and Napoli. These games would be difficult with a full squad but will these difficult fixtures stand to Liverpool when the season kicks off?

Liverpool’s tough pre-season is not all negatives. During this period they were missing Allison in goal. He was a massive loss Mignolet let in several soft goals and does not instill the confidence Allison does when he’s between the sticks. Salah, Mane and Firmino were also missing. Without their main goal threat Liverpool would always struggle but it was no harm to give Origi and Brewster some much deserved game time.

Brewster scored several goals in pre-season and looked bright. Liverpool looked to let youth have it’s chance with Kent, Wilson, Hoever, and Duncan getting a chance perhaps the team did not have enough time to gel together. Another reason for the poor run of form was that at halftime the team
was usually completely changed or altered. Pre-season games are usually about getting minutes into the legs and giving young players a chance. I feel Liverpool will be firing on all cylinder when the new season starts.
Liverpool have been frugal when it comes to transfer deals but do they need signings? They signed Harvey Elliot but he is unlikely to feature in the first team. Similarly Van Den Berg is another youth prospect but there has been little to reinforce the first team. Liverpool could do with cover for
Robertson in the left side of defense. They could also do with a winger Incase of injury to Salah and Mane.

Overall I think Liverpool can be optimistic going into the new season. Yes they have suffered defeats in pre-season but that might be no harm to ground some of these successful talents. Liverpool’s team has not declined since last season and overall its looks to be a good time to be a Liverpool
supporter.
